What to binge watch while nursing a New Year’s Eve hangover

The only goal worth setting this New Year’s Day? Nursing your hangover with some good, mindless TV and movies. Luckily, there’s a large selection of binge watches to keep you company. Here’s what to look out for.

“Lovesick” on Netflix

If you’ve slept on this charming show, you’re missing out. Warm, funny and heartfelt, it’s “Friends” meets “Happy Endings” with a good dose of British irreverence. You can wallow with the characters in their screw-ups and smile at their triumphs. Start from the beginning.

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on FXX

This scathing comedy has been on the air for a whopping 13 seasons, and its most recent managed a rare feat: It tackled the #MeToo movement in a way that’s actually funny. Fuzzy brain? You don’t need any context to enjoy it, so throw on a random episode and kick back.

“Lodge 49” on Hulu

This unassuming AMC series starring Wyatt Russell (Kurt’s son with Goldie Hawn) is essentially “The Big Lebowski” as a TV show. Shaggy, strange and surprisingly sweet, “49” doesn’t have a complicated plot or demand much concentration. Slacker protagonist Dud (Russell) makes you feel accomplished by comparison. The complete first season is now available on Hulu.

“Schitt’s Creek” on Netflix

This show airs on the little-viewed Pop channel, but it’s also available on Netflix, where it’s had something of a renaissance. Don’t miss out on the buzz as more and more people are discovering this offbeat small-town comedy.

“Killing Eve” on BBC America

It would be understandable if you missed some of 2018’s best shows, since nearly 500 aired this year. But before 2019 gets too far underway, tune in to this surprisingly fun assassin drama starring Sandra Oh. Since everyone’s talking about this show, getting acquainted with it when you’re not up for much else is a sneaky way to be productive.

“Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” on Amazon Prime

If you’re so out of it that you can’t even take in new information, the original 1971 “Willy Wonka” starring Gene Wilder starts streaming Jan. 1. Ring in the new year watching bratty children meet terrible fates in a candy wonderland!
