Jets begin coaching search with Andy Reid disciple

The Jets have their first few official coaching candidate.

The Jets have put out an interview request for Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, The Post confirmed. The former NFL running back has climbed up the coaching ranks before being promoted to this position under Andy Reid when Matt Nagy landed the Bears job a year ago.

The Jets could be attempting to find in their candidate what the Bears found in Nagy, an offensive-minded coach who could speed up the development of young quarterback. In the Jets’ case that would be Sam Darnold. The Jets fired Todd Bowles on Sunday after four disappointing seasons.

The Jets have also requested interviews with Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Cowboys passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Kris Richard, The Post confirmed.

Bieniemy’s interview availability will depend on the Chiefs’ preparation as they secured the top seed in the AFC after a virtuoso season from second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Bieniemy had been the Chiefs’ running backs coach for the previous five years.
