iPhone XS Max catches fire in man’s pocket: report

This Apple customer complaint might be a little too hot to handle.

A former Apple fan from Ohio is considering legal action against the company after his iPhone XS Max suddenly caught fire in his pocket.

Josh Hillard said his XS Max burst into flames while he was taking his lunch break at work, according to a report in the blog iDrop News.

He noticed a strong smell coming from his back pocket and felt a “large amount of heat.” According to the report, Hillard then saw green and yellow smoke spew from the sizzling iPhone.

“I ran to the boardroom where I got my shoes and pants off as fast as possible,” he claims. “A VP of our company put the fire out with a fire extinguisher because he heard me yelling.”

The ordeal left Hillard with a hole in his pants, fire extinguisher residue on his clothing, as well as “some pain/irritation in my buttocks region,” he said.

Hillard said that although a supervisor in Apple’s safety department offered to replace his phone, he also wants restitution for his damaged clothing, as well as reimbursement for the cost of his wireless plan for the period when he was left phone-less.

He is “contemplating legal action” against the $750 billion company, according to the report.

The iPhone XS Max has a starting retail price of $1,099, and can cost as much as $1,449 for the 512-gigabyte model.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
