It’s no secret that Eli Manning may have played his last game with the Giants on Sunday.
If the organization does decide to bring its longtime quarterback back though, Manning’s father can’t stomach another miserable year.
“If Eli is done playing, I’m fine with it,” Archie Manning told ESPN.com. “But if he comes back, the Giants have got to win. They can’t go through another season like this.”
Since an 11-5 season in 2016 that ended in a playoff loss at Green Bay, things have been miserable for Manning. The Giants have finished in last place in the NFC East for two straight years as the 37-year old Manning has started to look his age.
The Giants will pick sixth in the NFL Draft, as Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins leads a quarterback class without much depth. The Giants could consider a bridge quarterback outside of Manning, though coach Pat Shurmur has consistently asserted the respect he has for Manning.
“I feel strongly about Eli,’’ Shurmur said after Sunday’s 36-35 season-ending loss to the Cowboys. “I work for people, there’s a hierarchy and there will be conversations about what we do at all positions.’’
