Trump touts ‘big progress’ in China trade talks

President Trump touted “big progress” in trade negotiations with China’s President Xi Jinping on Saturday.

“Just had a long and very good call with President Xi of China,” Trump tweeted at 11:03 a.m. “Deal is moving along very well. If made, it will be very comprehensive, covering all subjects, areas and points of dispute. Big progress being made!”

China’s industrial profits are taking a beating as US tariffs have taken hold, Forbes reported this week.

Trump’s sunny message followed a combative one on the ongoing US government shutdown.

“I am in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come on over and make a deal on Border Security,” the president complained.

“From what I hear, they are spending so much time on Presidential Harassment that they have little time left for things like stopping crime and our military!” he wrote, alluding to House Democrats’ plans for multiple investigations into the Trump administration once they take power this Thursday.

Trump also blamed special counsel Robert Mueller for the deletion of thousands of text messages between Mueller’s controversial former staffers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

“The Mueller Angry Democrats recently deleted approximately 19,000 Text messages between FBI Agent Lisa Page and her lover, Agent Peter S.,” Trump railed. “These Texts were asked for and INVALUABLE to the truth of the Witch Hunt Hoax. This is a total Obstruction of Justice. All Texts Demanded!”

Page and Strzok, who worked on both the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the probes into Trump’s campaign, reportedly texted each other about plans to “stop” Trump from winning the presidency. Earlier this month, the Justice Department revealed that thousands of their messages to each other had disappeared, blaming the loss of data on a technological failure.

The president’s attorney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, suggested Wednesday that the loss of the texts could constitute destruction of evidence — and called for a special prosecutor to look into the matter.
