Man beat up by hunky firefighter is not doing well: mom

The mother of the man allegedly clobbered by the off-duty firefighter who flexed his pecs as “Mr December” in an FDNY calendar said Saturday that her son’s condition is “not good.”

“He’s got a giant gash in his head with stitches and a fractured ankle…a swollen ankle,” Beth Swendsen-Dowd, the mom of Matthew Dowd told The Post at her Long Island home.

“Let’s just leave it alone,” she added.

Chiseled first responder Francisco Espadas — who posed shirtless for this year’s FDNY “Calendar of Heroes” — was charged with assault and harassment for allegedly hitting Dowd, 21, with a bottle during a brawl at the Bourbon Street bar in Bayside, Queens at around 1:20 a.m. Friday, police said.

Espadas, 32, who also lives on Long Island, was subsequently suspended without pay for 30 days, according to the FDNY.

He was released on his own recognizance during his Friday night arraignment.

Dowd suffered a laceration to the head and was taken from the Bell Boulevard watering hole to North Shore Manhasset Hospital for treatment, officials said.

Espadas denies hitting him with a bottle, and filed a cross-complaint against Dowd for assaulting him, according to law enforcement sources.

Dowd was also arrested and charged with assault for allegedly slugging the firefighter in the face and leaving him with a bleeding, swollen mouth, police said.

No one answered the door at Espada’s home Saturday.
