Bronx shooting ends NYC’s streak of seven days without a murder

A 32-year-old man was shot dead in the Bronx — ending the Big Apple’s streak of days without a killing at seven.

The unidentified man walked out of an apartment on Southern Boulevard near Jennings Street in Charlotte Gardens just after 10 p.m. on Friday to have a conversation with someone, police sources said.

At some point during that chat, he was shot at least once in the torso and then stumbled back into the apartment.

First responders rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The last homicide in the city took place on Dec. 21, when 32-year-old Lewis Shamberger was shot dead near the corner of East 169 Street and Boston Road, about half a mile away. Both shootings happened within the confines of the 42nd Precinct.

The Big Apple’s longest homicide-free stretch since 1994 — when the NYPD began tracking that data — is 12 days, in February 2015. That record was broken when Eric Roman, 28, died on Valentine’s Day from a shooting in Woodhaven the day before.
