Cop arrested for choking his mom in their Bronx home

An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested for allegedly choking his 60-year-old mother in their Bronx home, but the charges were later dropped because the mom refused to press charges, law-enforcement sources said Friday.

Officer Anthony Amirally, 42, was arrested Thursday around 6:20 p.m. on charges of criminal obstruction of breathing and aggravated harassment, police said.

His mother called 911 after her son allegedly choked her with his hands and then let her go, a police source said.

Amirally’s mother and father had been arguing, and the son tried to break it up, sources said.

The mother ultimately didn’t want to press charges against her son, according to law-enforcement sources.

Denisse Moreno, a spokeswoman for the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, said in a statement: “We declined to prosecute because we didn’t have sufficient evidence.”

A middle-aged woman who answered the door at The Bronx home Friday told The Post, “We’re fine. We don’t want to talk.”

Amirally, who is assigned to the nearby 52nd precinct, was initially suspended without pay as a result of his arrest.

A 12-year veteran of the force, he raked in $120,511 last year in total pay, according to data posted by SeeThroughNY.
