NYPD chief joked about media leaks as rain dripped from roof

At the NYPD, the leaks come straight from the top, literally!

Rain dripping through the roof at a ceremony to honor promoted cops forced officials to move the stage Friday — and sparked jokes among NYPD brass.

“If you’ve come to promotion ceremonies in the past, something is a little different today,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill told an audience of hundreds.

“The [stage] is somewhat smaller because we have leaks at One Police Plaza. So I guess that’s not the first time, right?” he quipped.

O’Neill’s wordplay sparked laughter — with one fan of cop humor, proclaiming, “That’s a good one!”

The drizzle soaked parts of an elevated stage, which was moved to the north side of a gymnasium-like room at the police headquarters.

Instead of buckets, officials placed strips of carpet near the stage to soak up the water — as dozens of officers were applauded for their new titles.

Some NYPD honchos, who usually sit on the stage, were also moved to seats on the floor.
