Yankees add pair of lefties in bid to shore up bullpen

The Yankees dropped a bit of extra news in with the announcement this afternoon they had completed the signing of lefty pitcher Rex Brothers.

They revealed they also signed former A’s reliever Danny Coulombe.

Both Brothers, whose signing was known Monday, and Coulombe received minor league contracts with invitations to the big league club’s spring training.

Coulombe, a lefty who came into the league with the Dodgers in 2014, bounced back and forth between the majors and minors last season for the A’s. With the big league club, he compiled a 1-1 record over 27 appearances with a 4.56 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings

Brothers has a career 3.79 ERA in seven seasons but spent nearly all of last season in the Braves’ minor league system. According to The Post’s Joel Sherman, Brothers’ deal with the Yankees would pay him $800,000 if he makes the big club. However, if he is not on the Major League roster as of July 31, he can sign in Japan or Korea for $100,000.
