Woman killed by bus was recently married Fordham Law grad

The young woman killed by a charter bus as she was trying to cross a street in Lower Manhattan was recently married — and had just gotten off work as a law clerk for a federal judge when she was struck.

Kimberly Greer, 28, of the Upper East Side, who clerked for Southern District of New York Judge Katharine Parker, had been working late with Parker on a legal decision just before the 7:30 p.m. Thursday crash, a co-worker told The Post on Friday.

“We are devastated by this tragedy,” Parker said in a statement. “Kimberly was a vibrant young woman with an excellent legal mind.”

Greer was struck by a 2013 private charter bus from the Woburn, Mass.-based company NYC Style Limo at the intersection of Centre Street and Leonard Street, according to sources and police.

Authorities say the bus, driven by 50-year-old Xi Chen of Manhattan, began to make a left turn onto Leonard Street at the same time Greer attempted to cross Leonard Street from south to north inside the crosswalk.

Greer was hit by the rear portion of the bus, knocking her to the ground, police said. She was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Chen, who had a valid driver’s license, remained at the scene and was arrested on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care, cops said. He was awaiting arraignment.

Greer “distinguished herself in Chambers through her keen analytical skills and fluent writing,” Parker said. “Most importantly, she was one of the most kind and generous persons I know, quick to lend a hand to colleagues, bake cookies for interns, and mentor students.

“She was a deeply valued and loved member of my Chambers Family,” Parker added of Greer, who served since March as Parker’s law clerk.

Prior to her clerkship, Greer was an associate at law firm Vedder Price P.C.

Greer graduated cum laude from Fordham Law School in May 2016 — and it was there where she met her husband, 27-year-old Michael Eric Singer, who also graduated from the school with a law degree.

The two married Nov. 10, according to a wedding announcement in the New York Times.

“While at Fordham she distinguished herself as a leader,” Parker said, noting that Greer was president of the Fordham Law School Student Association and an associate editor of the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal.

Greer, who graduated from Northwestern University in 2012, was also an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School, where she taught advanced appellate advocacy.

In addition to the driver, five people were on board the bus at the time of the crash, cops said. None were injured.

Dian Jiang, owner of NYC Style Limo, told The Post that Chen had been with the company since July 2016 and that there was never a problem with him before.

“There was nothing wrong with the bus,” Jiang said. “It was raining.”

“The pedestrian was standing close on the street because there was construction over there,” he added.

The driver, who was turning at the time, heard a thump and then stopped, according to Jiang.

“When the bus is making a legal [left] hand turn, it doesn’t usually clip people,” Jiang said.

“I’m not putting fault on the pedestrian or the bus driver,” he added. “We’re not really sure right now.”

Authorities drug-tested Chen, Jiang said, as he insisted that Chen was not under the influence.

Chen had been randomly selected for drug testing back in October 2017, according to Jiang.

Jiang said he was devastated that one of his company’s buses was involved in a fatal accident.

“It’s just very hard to grasp now,” Jiang said. “We feel really bad for [the victim].”

The bus company had no crashes causing injury or death over the past two years, online records show.
