Mom busted for leaving young kids home alone watching ‘Home Alone’

Macauley Culkin is not your damn babysitter.

Police in Muncie, Indiana, arrested 25-year-old Taylor Joann Cumings this week for letting her little boys watch “Home Alone” — while she went to work.

Muncie Police Department reps said they acted on an anonymous tip Tuesday reporting two young children left alone at a home in the 1800 block of South Franklin Street.

When officers arrived for a wellness check at 12:45 p.m., they discovered two brothers, 4 and 7,  watching the 1990 holiday classic about a little boy whose forgetful family leaves him behind when they take off for Christmas vacation.

After hearing knocking on the front door, big brother peeked through the blinds and hollered, “It’s the police!,” according the the Muncie Star Press.

The frightened boy called an aunt, who persuaded him to open the door. The officers calmed them down with some toys they kept on hand in their patrol car.

When cops contacted Cummings at her place of employment — the local Youth Opportunity Center — she told them she couldn’t find a babysitter at 7 a.m. Her solution: she told her oldest son to play hooky from school so he could watch his pre-school sibling.

Mom of the year told the authorities she’s done the same thing before — “but not very often,” ABC affiliate RTV6 reports.

That didn’t fly with the MPD: She was arrested and charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent. Her sons were placed in the care of their aunt, Department of Child Services officials said, while mom was held under a $10,000 bond.

This isn’t the first headline appearance Macaulay Culkin’s classic flick has generated this week. He broke the internet, as the kids used to say, Wednesday with his new new Google ad featuring recreations of scenes from the film.
