This obnoxious dating trend could ruin the holidays for you

Has your relationship been on the rocks during the holiday season? It could be because your partner is cheap.

‘Scrooging’ is the latest dating trend that’s ruining Christmas. The term, which was first coined by eHarmony, is the act of dumping someone before the holidays in order to avoid having to buy them a gift.

“We know that relationships can often become less of a priority in the run up to Christmas,” eHarmony rep Rachael Lloyd told Metro UK. “Often people in relationships get anxious about what to buy their partner, particularly if they’re not given any clues.”

Lloyd also said that based on eHarmony’s research, men were more likely than women to ‘scrooge’ a partner.

And if you’re tempted to bail on your better half this holiday season, Lloyd says to proceed with caution.

“There’s no excuse for this type of behavior,” she said. “There are a huge number of [budget]-friendly presents on offer, which some of these ‘Scrooges’ might consider before pulling the plug.”

But for people who ended up getting dumped, take heart, says NYC-based matchmaker Julia Bekker.

“This is simple. This means A. The person has commitment issues and B. They’re cheap. Neither of which you want to be with … Ever,” Bekker, the owner of matchmaking company Hunting Maven, told The Post. “So be thankful they actually did you a favor. Losing them sounds like the best gift of all.”
