Alex Smith’s wife exhales after quarterback’s ‘difficult ride’

Nothing beats home sweet home for Alex Smith.

On Sunday, Smith’s wife, Elizabeth, gave fans an update as the Redskins quarterback rested comfortably under a team blanket following his release from the hospital, after enduring scary complications from leg surgery.

“HOME…This last month has been a difficult ride. Our family is beyond happy to have this man with us and home,” Elizabeth posted on Instagram. “This experience has given us great perspective and gratitude for all the people and blessings in our lives.”

Smith, 34, suffered a broken tibia and fibula against the Texans in Week 11. NFL Network later reported Smith was dealing with an infection as a result of the surgery.

While there appears to be “some optimism, but hardly certainty” that Smith will resume his NFL career, according to ESPN, who cited league sources, the quarterback and his family are taking things one day at a time.

“We couldn’t have gotten through it without our amazing family, friends and community,” Elizabeth wrote. “A special thank you to the relentless doctors, nurses, techs, hospital administrators, the [Daniel] Snyder family and the Washington Redskins.”
