Nathan Eovaldi will not be their answer and will be their enemy, as the free-agent right-hander agreed to a deal with the Red Sox on Thursday morning pending a physical, The Athletic reported. According to MLB.com, the contract is for four years and $67.5 million.
The 28-year-old former Yankee was crucial for Boston last season, when he came over in a trade and became an October hero. With a 100-mph fastball, he was untouchable in the playoffs, pitching to a 1.61 ERA in 22 1/3 innings, spread between the rotation and bullpen.
The Yankees were interested in a reunion with the 2015 and ’16 Bomber, who exited after needing Tommy John surgery. But two days after Patrick Corbin was lost to Washington, the Yankees came up empty again as they seek a fifth starter for their rotation.
