Do not be so quick to check out his 2019 salary ($10.1 million) and salary-cap hit ($14.75 million) and dismiss Janoris Jenkins as a viable returnee next season. Quality cornerbacks cost a ton and Jenkins qualifies. Plus, in somewhat of an upset, the head coach gets a kick out of him.
Jackrabbit is different, and it is clear Pat Shurmur gets him.
“He just competes and keeps the noise out, that’s it,’’ Shurmur said. “He’s a tough sucker and I appreciate his spirit, too, because he just keeps competing. Every once in a while people get beat, but he just keeps fighting, keeps competing. You’re all becoming well aware I’m fond of the competitive guys, and he’s a competitor.’’
The Giants were thrilled the Bears chose to challenge Jenkins on fourth down in overtime, as he deflected the pass away to seal the 30-27 win. Jenkins was, too. He also was delighted to talk about linebacker Alec Ogletree’s two interceptions, as long as no one compared Ogletree’s nose for the end zone with his own.
“Got a long history,’’ Jenkins said playfully.
Informed Ogletree now has four career touchdown returns, Jenkins said “That’s it? How many I got?’’
