After 13 seasons and one Super Bowl, it was a loss to the Cardinals that killed Mike McCarthy.
The Packers fired their head coach amid a disastrous 4-7-1 season on Sunday, shortly after getting stunned by the 3-9 Cardinals, 20-17.
On a team that has perhaps the most talented player in football in Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay hasn’t made the postseason since 2016. The Packers are 11-16-1 in the last year and a half. Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin will be the interim coach.
“The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers,” team president Mark Murphy said in a statement. “As a result I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately.”
