The Redskins’ Reuben Foster saga continues.
The Redskins claimed Foster, who was released by the 49ers following a domestic violence arrest, on Tuesday and released a statement that the team had conversations with players from the linebacker’s school, Alabama, where he played from 2014-16.
Not among them, however, were free safety Ha Ha clinton-Dix and defensive end Jonathan Allen. Clinton-Dix played for the Crimson Tide from 2011-12, while Allen was a teammate of Foster’s for three seasons.
“I havent talked to him yet, but he knows it’s his last opportunity,” Allen told reporters after Wednesday’s practice. “I don’t know the situation, I don’t know what happened, I’m not condoning any allegation or anything, but I know from what I had with him at Alabama, he’s a great dude and people make mistakes.”
It is unclear which former Alabama players the Redskins talked to, though there are five others currently on the roster: linebackers Ryan Anderson and Shaun Dion Hamilton, defensive lineman Daron Payne, guard Arie Kouandjio and wide receiver Cam Sims.
Washington has been under fire for picking up Foster, who is currently on the commissioner’s exempt list, meaning he cannot join the team for practices or games. Despite claims that Redskins’ brass did its due diligence ahead of the claim, reports emerged on Wednesday morning that only one team called police about the Tampa-based domestic violence incident, and it was the Eagles.
