A wind-whipped snowstorm barreled over the Big Apple Thursday afternoon — turning the evening commute into a nightmare for drivers.

Weather snarled traffic across the city Thursday evening, the state’s 511 website showing that traffic was severely slowed or ground to a halt all over town. Dozens of incidents were reported, and the Bayonne Bridge was closed entirely, according to the website.

Major delays were reported on the George Washington Bridge Thursday evening, following a crash there earlier in the afternoon, the website noted.

“Roads will become dangerous for the evening commute. Take it slow, and leave plenty of space between you and the car ahead,” the National Weather Service tweeted.

No changes were announced for public transit as of 5 p.m.

Roughly 2.2 inches of snow had fallen in Midtown as workers began to make their ways home for the evening, Weather Underground reported.

The snow is expected to change over to a slushy wintry mix around 7 p.m., at the back end of the evening rush, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service is predicting snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches in New York City.
