Man turns self in after strangling cat: police

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Police in West Virginia say a man told authorities he choked his foster cat, leaving the animal injured.

The Dominion Post reports 43-year-old James Gregory Wicker surrendered to authorities Tuesday morning and was charged with animal cruelty. A Morgantown police release says animal control went to Wicker’s home and found nine foster cats, one of which was injured. The extent of the cat’s injuries was unclear.

The cats are owned by the shelter Appalachian Peace Paws Rescue. It’s unclear how the shelter selects and screens homes for foster animals. Monongalia County Animal Control is working with police to care for the animals and return them to their owner. The circumstances surrounding the abuse are unclear. It also is unclear if Wicker has a lawyer.
