Giants swoop in on Rams castoff for offensive-line help

The Giants’ 1-7 record paid off Wednesday as they got top priority on claiming guard Jamon Brown off waivers from the Rams.

A reinforcement for the leaky and banged-up Big Blue offensive line, the 6-foot-4, 340-pound Brown has made 30 starts across four seasons in the NFL, the majority at right guard.

Brown lost his starting job after missing the first two games of the season serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The 25-year-old Louisville product was waived Tuesday with the Rams needing a roster spot once they traded for pass rusher Dante Fowler.

The Giants started the season with Patrick Omameh at right guard, but the free-agent acquisition was benched before Week 7. John Greco, a natural guard, slid over to take his spot while Spencer Pulley was inserted into the starting lineup at center.

Right tackle Chad Wheeler, who took over for the since-traded Ereck Flowers in Week 3, was unable to finish Sunday’s game against the Redskins with an ankle injury, forcing Brian Mihalik into action.

“Headed to the Big Apple!!” Brown tweeted Wednesday. “So thankful for my opportunity to join the .@Giants family! Looking forward to starting this journey!! Let’s do this!!”
