Dolphins the pick over the Bengals

Dave Tuley, senior reporter at VSiN, joins the Post’s Bettor’s Guide for the 2018 NFL season. His handicapping pieces appear in VSiN’s online magazine, Point Spread Weekly.

Dolphins (+6) over BENGALS: The Bengals have been very good to me, but that’s when they’ve been underdogs. Now, they’re laying nearly a full TD? We love betting against teams in that role reversal. As good as the Bengals (3-1 straight up and against the spread) have played, they’re not that much better than the Dolphins (also 3-1 SU and ATS). Granted, the Fish were blown out 38-7 by the Patriots, but that can happen to anyone. The Dolphins were allowing just 17.3 points a game before that debacle and should be able to contain the Bengals and keep this to a field-goal game.

Broncos (+1) over JETS: I’m sorry, but the Jets shouldn’t be favored over anyone (and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos get bet to favoritism by kickoff). To put in horse racing terms, the Broncos also get to drop down in class after having faced the Ravens and Chiefs. Denver’s D will cause the same problems for Sam Darnold and the Jets’ offense that they faced against Jacksonville, while Case Keenum and Co. should be able to score enough to win comfortably.
