Only Brandon Nimmo could find bright side of a pulled hamstring

Brandon Nimmo chose to look on the bright side, because that is his nature.

Better to sustain a hamstring injury on the final weekend of the season than with a significant portion of the schedule remaining.

The Mets outfielder was removed from Saturday’s 1-0 victory over the Marlins in 13 innings after pulling his right hamstring rounding first base in the seventh.

Nimmo finished the season with a .263/.404/.483 slash line with 17 homers and 47 RBIs in 140 games.

“Really this has been a great year for me, there were a lot of positive things to look at,” Nimmo said. “With having such a successful season and a lot of things I can get better at, that means there is still potential for me for improvement. That is exciting for me that I can become a better player.”

Nimmo said the location of the hamstring pull — on the belly of the muscle — shouldn’t present a problem moving toward his offseason workouts.

Jose Reyes and David Wright started their first game together since Sept. 28, 2011. The duo has started 878 games together, the most in franchise history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Mets officials ruled out the possibility of Jacob deGrom making a cameo on short rest Sunday because of the limited upside. DeGrom will finish the season with a major league-best 1.70 ERA and in strong position to win the NL Cy Young award.

Nimmo has 29 walks this month — the most by any Mets player in a calendar month. Keith Hernandez had the previous club record with 28 walks in July 1984. Nimmo entered play ranked ninth in the NL with 80 walks.
