Puppies rescued from Florence’s wrath are up for adoption on Long Island.

Volunteers with the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington drove a truck down South last week to pick up 21 dogs saved from Orangeburg, SC, according to rescue coordinator Karla Agostinello.

Workers at the Orangeburg Animal Care and Control called their partner in Long Island for help as their shelter filled up fast with animals left behind by foster families fleeing the storm.

“I was talking to [Orangeburg ACC head Robin Kloes] on Monday to see what was going on, and she already found that people were starting to panic and they were looking to do something with their animals,” Agostinello said.

Some of the abandoned foster dogs include seven 8-to-10-week-old German shepherd-mix pups and their mom.

A brother and sister pair of Labrador puppies were also rescued after their owner dumped them on the street before fleeing Orangeburg.

Someone had let two puppies out of their car and just kept going,” Agostinello said. “How do you expect two puppies to survive that storm?”

The rescued dogs are scared, Agostinello said, but volunteers have been giving them toys and treats to decompress.

On Tuesday, the NSAL will drive down to Orangeburg to drop off supplies and pick up any animals in need of shelter.
