8 CUNY schools ranked in country’s top 50 in the north

Big Apple colleges deserve an “A,” according to a new nationwide ranking.

A total of eight City University of New York schools — including Baruch and Hunter — are among the north’s 50 best public colleges this year, according to US News & World Report’s annual review.

“The high ranking of many of our colleges is evidence of our progress in increasing academic momentum and graduation rates and our success in developing cutting-edge strategies to help students achieve their goals,” Interim Chancellor Vita Rabinowitz said in a press release.

Overall, Baruch College ranked fifth best and Hunter College came in sixth.

The City College of New York and Queens College tied for 14th place, York College placed 15th, and Brooklyn College ranked 19th, according to the report. Lehman College landed at No. 37, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice was No. 46.

To create the overall list, researchers reviewed 1,800 universities and colleges nationally and ranked them based on “excellence at first-year student retention, graduation rates and the strength of the faculty,” according to the report.

Overall, Princeton University ranked first nationally, and Harvard came in second.
