Roy Moore sues Sacha Baron Cohen, Showtime for defamation

Not niiice!

Failed Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore on Wednesday sued comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for duping him into appearing on his latest TV show, where the former Alabama judge was confronted with a “pedophile detecting machine.”

Moore — who was accused during his campaign of sexually assaulting and harassing teen girls in the 1970s — wants Cohen, cable network Showtime and its owner CBS to cough up more than $95 million to compensate for the emotional distress of “being falsely portrayed as a sex offender and pedophile,” according to the suit filed in US District Court in DC.

Moore appeared on an episode of Cohen’s “Who is America?” where the “Borat” comic posed as an Israeli anti-terrorism expert named Col. Erran Morad and waved what he said was a new piece of technology that can identify pedophiles.

When the gadget beeped at Moore, he stormed off set.

“During the segment, Defendant Cohen’s ‘device’ – as part of the false and fraudulent routine – purports to detect Judge Moore as a sex offender, thus defaming him,” the court documents read.

In the suit, Moore says he believed he was appearing on a network called Yerushalayim TV — which doesn’t exist — and was going to receive an award for his support of Israel.

“Had Judge Moore and Mrs. Moore known that Defendant Cohen had fraudulently induced Judge Moore into this interview, which as a ‘set up’ to harm and thus damage Plaintiffs
and the rest of their entire family, Judge Moore would not have agreed to appear,” the suit reads.

“As a direct and proximate result of Defendant Cohen’s and his agents’ including Defendants Showtime’s and CBS’s false and fraudulent representations, Judge Moore, Mrs. Moore, and his entire family have suffered extreme emotional distress as a result of Judge Moore being falsely portrayed as a sex offender and pedophile in this district, on national television and worldwide.”

Moore lost a special election in Alabama to Democrat Doug Jones last year — despite being endorsed by President Trump — after nine women accused him of sexual misconduct.
