Bodies of father, son found after rafting accident

The bodies of a Queens father and his young son were pulled from a Hudson Valley river on Monday, two days after they were swept into the water during a rafting trip, authorities said.

The bodies of Marco Avila, 46, and his son Marcos Avila, 9, were pulled from the Neversink River in Orange County on Monday afternoon, New York state police said in a statement.

On Saturday morning, Marco Avila was watching his son and another child as they were rafting in the river, police said. As they were returning to shore, Avila’s son fell out of the raft and Avila dove in to save him.

Avila was able to get his son back in the raft, but it overturned soon after, police said.

The father and son never resurfaced, but the other child survived, authorities said.

Their bodies were pulled from the river Monday near the Oakland Valley Campground on Shore Drive.
