Christian Hackenberg now going to the Super Bowl champs

He might not have cut it for the Jets, but maybe he’ll have an easier time making the Super Bowl champs’ roster.

The Eagles are signing Christian Hackenberg, NFL Network reported Sunday, one month after the project quarterback was cut by Oakland, which came three weeks after the Jets waived him.

According to the report, Hackenberg’s addition does not mean anything about the health of the recovering Carson Wentz or last year’s Super Bowl winner, Nick Foles. But the Eagles see a signal-caller with talent to take a flier on. They have Nate Sudfeld and Joe Callahan also on their quarterback depth chart.

The Jets saw that talent in Hackenberg, making him their second-round pick in 2016. But the 23-year-old never even took a snap with a team that has been terrible, a stunning indictment of what the Jets saw in him in practice.

It seems unlikely Hackenberg will make the Philadelphia roster, but he should have a chance to begin proving himself now.
