The Mets’ injury woes just got worse.
Steven Matz was placed on the disabled list Friday with a flexor pronator strain, the team announced. Corey Oswalt will take his roster spot and start Sunday against the Braves.
Matz lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his last start, as the Nationals shellacked him for seven runs on eight hits in an eventual 25-4 Mets loss. The game, which was the worst loss in franchise history, was an exclamation point on what has been a miserable season for the Mets.
By and large though, Matz has been steady this year. He has a 4.35 ERA even after that start.
Oswalt, a 24-year old righty, has made five starts with the Mets this year and holds a 5.27 ERA, which is better than his 6.02 mark in the Pacific Coast League with Triple-A Las Vegas.
