Goats have a new friend in Ralph Lauren.
The designer, under pressure from an animal rights group, has agreed to no longer use mohair in any of its products, The Post has learned.
The group, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has been successful in persuading several apparel makers to drop mohair — sourced from angora goats — since they released an investigative report in early May showing goats at a South Africa farm being abused.
Half the world’s supply of mohair comes from South Africa.
Nearly 300 brands and retailers — H&M, Zara, Gap, Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers, Diane von Furstenberg and others — have dropped mohair from their lineup, PETA said.
Some companies such as H&M will be phasing mohair out over time, eliminating it entirely by 2020.
“Because a credible animal welfare standard for sourcing mohair does not currently exist, we will not include it in our product pipeline going forward,” a spokesman for Ralph Lauren said in a statement.
