Teen girl fatally shot while taking selfies with loaded gun: police

A 16-year-old girl in Texas died Tuesday after she was shot in the head while taking selfies with a loaded gun — and two teens have been charged in her death, police said.

The girl, who was not immediately identified, was shot at about 4 p.m. at the Anatole at the Pines apartment complex in Conroe, where she was among a group of teens playing with a gun when it went off, the Houston Chronicle reported. Police said a 19-year-old man was also taking pictures with the girl when the bullet suddenly pierced her head.

“The male fled the apartment and we believe it was approximately an hour before they called the police.” Conroe police Sgt. Scott McCann told the newspaper.

Four male suspects were later taken into custody for questioning, according to police. Of the four, two 19-year-olds were charged. Matthew Tyshaun Davis was charged with murder and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance while Joseph Wilson was charged with tampering with physical evidence and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

The shooting occurred at a third-floor apartment at the complex, KHOU reports. Investigators remained at the scene late Tuesday gathering evidence and taking photographs inside the apartment.

Relatives of one suspect who was taken into custody told the station they hadn’t heard from their son in weeks and visited him on Tuesday only to find a large police presence at the building.

Several cars were also towed by investigators to be searched for evidence, KHOU reports.

The shooting briefly caused a lockdown at a nearby Montgomery County Hospital District administration building, hospital officials said.
