Univision CEO: Gizmodo sale is to focus on our ‘core strength’

Univision brass have a vision for the company and it doesn’t include Gizmodo Media Group or its Onion.

Chief Executive Vincent Sadusky told employees that the two digital properties are on the block because Univision is focusing on its “core strength” — as a “multimedia company for US Hispanic audiences,” according to an employee memo, a copy of which was seen by The Post

Sadusky, who was named CEO in late May, said Gizmodo, which includes sites like Deadspin and Jezebel as well as humor site The Onion, would “thrive” in companies that have a “focus” that “aligns better with theirs.”

That had been the thinking of many in the media world when Univision bought Gizmodo (formerly the Gawker Media sites) for $135 million two years ago in a bankruptcy auction.

At the time, digital suitors, including Ziff Davis, Penske Media and Vox Media, submitted bids.

The Post reached out to Ziff, Penske and Vox, all of whom declined to comment. Univision also declined to comment.
