Google Home virtual assistant learns to speak Spanish

Hola, Google!

The search giant announced Tuesday that its popular Google Home line of smart speakers is now even smarter, having added Spanish-language skills to its repertoire.

The addition comes as Google Home speakers are hitting stores in Spain and Mexico. Three distinct dialects will be available: for Spain, Mexico and the US.

The Google Home’s wake word, “OK Google,” will be the same in English and Spanish, and the virtual assistant will be able to perform many of the same functions.

Google Assistant, which is used to perform all of the Home’s functions, is currently fluent in German, Japanese, Italian and French, in addition to English and Spanish, but it is unclear when the smart speaker will be able to take commands in these languages.

The Google Home language can be switched by using the Google Home app and adjusting its settings.
