Cache of World War II weapons found in family’s home

Authorities discovered a cache of World War II-era weapons in a Brooklyn home Wednesday morning, law enforcement sources said.

Acting on a tip, police executed a search warrant at the 900-square-foot detached home on Avenue Z in Gravesend and found the decades-old firearms, along with an object that resembled a grenade, sources said.

The discovery of the grenade-like device at 7:10 a.m. prompted authorities to bring the NYPD’s Bomb Squad Unit to investigate, according to sources. The department’s Emergency Services Unit also responded to the scene.

The items found were deemed safe just after 9 a.m., authorities said.

A resident at the home has an expired firearms permit, sources said.

According to property records, the single-family dwelling is owned by Julia and Isidore Rodriguez.
