Giants player’s brain cramp cost him one of his Super Bowl rings

Keys, wallet, phone, Super Bowl rings.

Giants long snapper Zak DeOssie might want to implement that checklist into his daily routine, as the two-time Super Bowl champion thought his hardware was stolen … after he left it on top of his car.

According to a police report obtained by Deadspin, DeOssie lost his rings after a May 2 charity event at the Grand Summit Hotel in Summit, N.J.

The report said DeOssie drove home after the event with his wife and couldn’t find the rings, leading him to suspect theft and contact the Summit Police Department.

But a detective determined that DeOssie himself, not a thief, was responsible for his lost jewelry, as DeOssie had left the boxes containing the rings on top of his car momentarily to open the door.

One of the rings has been recovered.

According to a supplementary police report, Summit resident David Smith found broken glass on the street the morning of May 3 while walking his dog. Wanting to clear the glass because of the children who take the same route to school, Smith began to pick it up — and discovered a box containing DeOssie’s 2011 ring, which was soon returned to the long snapper.

Just before that, however, Smith had discarded a broken box and glass into the recycling bin for “safety concerns.”

When police reported the second ring (from 2007) to be missing, Smith’s actions became clearer: He had thrown out one of DeOssie’s rings.

Still, DeOssie at least got one of his rings back, and police determined the 2011 piece is worth more than the 2007 one ($19,000 vs. $15,000).

DeOssie will start the quest to gain another ring next Tuesday at Giants minicamp.
