Paul Ryan ‘disagrees’ with Trump’s tariffs against Canada, EU

House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Thursday that he disagrees with President Trump’s decision to impose steep tariff’s on steel and aluminum imports from Europe and Canada.

“I disagree with this decision,” Ryan said in a statement.

“Instead of addressing the real problems in the international trade of these products, today’s action targets America’s allies when we should be working with them to address the unfair trading practices of countries like China.”

The Trump administration said on Thursday that the US would impose 25 percent tariffs on steels imports and 10 percent tariffs on aluminum.

“There are better ways to help American workers and consumers,” Ryan added. “I intend to keep working with the president on those better options.”

The European Union blasted Trump’s decision as “unjustified and at odds with World Trade Organization rules.”
