Ex-Syracuse mayor may launch bid to challenge Cuomo

The former mayor of Syracuse, Stephanie Miner, is considering an independent bid to challenge her longtime rival and fellow Democrat, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, it was reported Thursday.

“The determining factor will be whether I have the ideas and passion necessary to resonate with New Yorkers,” Miner said in an interview with the Albany Times-Union.

She also said she might still run in the Democratic primary, or not run at all.

Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon has already mounted a spirited challenge against Cuomo for the Democratic nomination.

Miner told the Times-Union that her “supporters” have been talking with firms that specialize in gathering petition signatures, and have also been speaking with potential campaign volunteers, but declined to name names.
