Bride loses bet, groom gets to wear Eagles jersey to wedding

When most people think of birds at weddings, they usually think of doves, not eagles.

But the bigger animal won out at the Hankses’ Memorial Day weekend wedding, after the bride lost a bet over the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl win.

At the Macungie, Pa., affair, Jennifer (Sullivan) Hanks, 31, dressed in white, wed Patrick Hanks, 28 — clad in a Carson Wentz jersey.

A video of their NFL-themed nuptials has gone viral.

“We never expected it to take off like this,” Jennifer tells The Post.

The bet began last October, at a friend’s wedding after-party. Drinks were flowing, and the couple’s mutual friend, Keith Wiest, was feeling good about his team this year — so good that he made a bet with Jennifer: If the Eagles lost the 2018 Super Bowl, he would watch every episode of her beloved “The Real Housewives” — across franchises.

But if he won, Jennifer had to let Patrick wear a Carson Wentz jersey at the wedding.

While Jennifer’s an Eagles fan herself, she wasn’t as confident about their prospects as her “diehard” husband and friend. So they shook on it — and from there, “the bet took over and had a life of its own,” Patrick says.

With every Eagles win that season, more hype grew around the agreement among their circle and future wedding attendees.

And when the Eagles finally did defeat the New England Patriots at the Super Bowl, Jennifer’s phone “blew up.”

“Everyone was texting me — my parents, my boss,” says Jennifer.

The couple, who lives in Conshohocken, Pa., decided to address the bet at the end of their ceremony. After exchanging vows and rings, Patrick switched out his tuxedo jacket for Eagles gear — and they were pronounced husband and wife.

They hadn’t given the DJ a heads-up, but he gamely improvised, playing the Eagles fight song as Patrick posed for the cheering crowd.

“It was just an absolutely amazing experience,” Jennifer says. Not that she expected anyone to react negatively: “We wouldn’t have done something like this if it wasn’t going to be well-received by everyone.”

Although, if you ask Patrick, it was going down either way.

“A bet’s a bet,” he tells The Post.
