Party boat crashes into vessel hosting high school prom

A large party boat slammed into a slightly smaller party boat carrying a group of Weehawken High School students celebrating their prom in Hoboken on Thursday night, authorities said.

The crash happened beside the 14th Street Pier and involved the ships Cornucopia Sundancer and Cornucopia Destiny, Hoboken fire officials said.

The party boats were 111 feet long and 95 feet long, and there were no immediate reports of injuries, according to the fire department.

Weehawken Township School District Superintendent Robert Zywicki also confirmed that all of his students were safe.

“Weehawken High School students disembarked the Destiny at 9:50 p.m.,” Zywicki tweeted.

“The students are en route to the Weehawken Elks via @WeehakwenTSD school bus. Students may continue the evening at the Elks until midnight. Every effort will be made to hold another prom before graduation.”

The last day of school and graduations ceremonies are set for June 22.
