Pence’s bunny book makes up to 50K in royalties

Vice President Mike Pence’s daughter’s children’s book about a bunny who spends a day with the veep generated up to $50,000 in royalties, according to financial disclosure documents released Wednesday.

The vice president’s form lists earnings between $15,001 and $50,000 from “Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President,” penned by his daughter Charlotte Pence and illustrated by his wife Karen.

Pence’s wife and daughter — who wrote the book to educate children about the veep’s job — had said they would donate the proceeds to an art therapy charity and a nonprofit that fights slavery and human trafficking.

Pence’s office did not immediately respond to a question about whether the royalties — which were listed as his spouse’s income — had been donated to the charities.

The book sparked a parody by HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” funnyman John Oliver and his staff writer Jill Twiss, “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo,” in which the protagonist meets another boy bunny and the pair get hitched.

Charlotte Pence — whose evangelist Christian father opposes gay marriage — said later that she bought a copy of the parody, which outsold her own book, and liked it.

The real Marlon Bundo is the Pence family’s pet, and is known as “BOTUS” — Bunny of the United States.
