They’re not regular police — they’re cool cops.
Cops with the Bath Township Police Department in Michigan spurred online outrage when they joked about reaching out to teens in the community by rebranding their squad cars with “Popo,” which is slang for police.
“We are still struggling to really reach the younger folk out there. So in an effort to bridge that gap, we’ve decided to update our patrol car graphics in an attempt to be more relatable to the local youths,” they wrote in a Facebook post unveiling the new decal.
But the tongue-in-cheek message failed to resonate with Facebook users.
“I wouldn’t stop for anything that says ‘popo’ on it. Have some professional respect for yourselves and your community,” one person wrote. “You’ve turned your department into a huge joke.”
“What’s next paint it pink or put bacon or cartoon pigs on it. Give me a break,” another user wrote.
Thankfully, cops were quick to clarify the post was one big gag — drawn up in Microsoft Paint, a computer app most teens have probably never heard of.
“It’s a good thing this was a joke photo made in MS Paint, no issues,” they wrote in a comment.
