A Kentucky midwife helped deliver her own baby via Caesarean section — stunning even her doctors.
Emily Dial, of Lawrenceburg, scrubbed in for the surgery and gave birth Sunday to a baby girl at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
With medical gloves on over her IV, the certified nurse-midwife reportedly pulled the 7-pound, 15-ounce baby from her abdomen on her own.
“It was truly a full circle moment,” Dial told the site Love What Matters. “It was tying together the two things I love the most: my family and my career. It truly was one of the happiest moments of my life.”
Dial hired photographer Sarah Hill to capture the memorable moment — which the woman called “unreal.”
“To watch her colleagues rally around her and make this happen was so beautiful,” Hill told the the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The new mom and her husband, Daniel, named the baby girl Emma Kaye. The family returned home Tuesday with the healthy baby, according to the newspaper.
