Helicopter crash victim was tourist visiting NYC with friend

One of the victims of Sunday’s chopper crash was an Argentinian tourist who was visiting the city with a friend, according to a report.

Carla Vallejos Blanco, 28, had a degree in advertising and hailed from the province of Corrientes, according to local newspaper Clarin.

Blanco went out on the photo-taking chopper tour without her travel buddy and was supposed to meet back up with him after the trip. When she didn’t show up, he called the Argentine Consulate in New York.

“The friend worried because they had arranged to meet at the Rockefeller Center. He contacted us because she did not respond,” vice consul Eduardo Almirantearena told the paper.

The consulate called local officials and learned around 2 a.m. that Blanco was among the five passengers who died when the helicopter crashed around 7 p.m.

“I had the sad responsibility, first of all, as an Argentine to know and then have to tell the family that one of the victims is Argentine and Corrientes,” the country’s consul general, Mateo Estremé, said in a statement to Big Bang News.

It wasn’t Blanco’s first time in New York: Her Facebook page shows tourist snaps from the city in 2014 and 2016.
