Rob Gronkowski takes his first step back from retirement

Rob Gronkowski isn’t ready to say goodbye to the NFL just yet.

The Patriots tight end, rumored to be considering retirement following New England’s 41-33 defeat to Philadelphia in Super LII, is expected to return for the 2018 season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“The expectation is that #Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will return for 2018 after pondering his future, I’m told. He may never make a grand announcement, but the belief is entertainment opportunities (acting WWE) will wait,” Rapoport tweeted Wednesday.

The report comes days after Gronkowski, 28, cryptically tweeted about his future, which has remained something of a question mark following post-game remarks in Minnesota earlier this month.

“I’ll sit down in the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at,” Gronkowski said at the time.

Though NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran revealed Gronkowski had considered stepping away from the game following a tense training camp, in which he butted heads with coaches regarding training methods, it appears Gronkowski is putting his possible WWE career on the back burner — for now, anyway.
