Aide suspended for insensitive comments is still getting paid

The Harlem state senator who said he suspended an aide for making insensitive comments about Asians and women has continued to pay him without interruption since the social media posts came to light, state records show.

Democratic Sen. Brian Benjamin said through a spokesman on Feb. 4 that community coordinator Daiquan Frasier had been benched and would have to complete sensitivity training to keep his job.

But state payroll records through Feb. 21 show Frasier continued to pull the same $1,461 biweekly salary he was receiving before The Post first reported on his vile remarks.

“It’s an example of how racism against Asian-Americans isn’t taken as seriously as it should be,” said Margaret Fung, executive director of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

“If he was supposed to be suspended, then gee, it would be good if it had actually taken place,” she added.

Frasier posted a photo in 2016 of an Asian man surrounded by kids pulling back the corners of their eyelids with the caption: “When you try to help the children in need but end up getting roasted instead.”

“The staff member received no regular compensation for the period for which he was suspended and the period counted against his total required civil service hours,” Benjamin spokesman Neil Reilly said.
