Jets could trade way into Darnold-Rosen hunt

The Giants may not be the only team in on the Josh Rosen-Sam Darnold sweepstakes.

Hours before the two Los Angeles college quarterbacks announced they were entering the NFL Draft, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan did not hesitate when asked if he would consider trading up from the No. 6 if there was a quarterback he fell in love with.

“The simple answer to that question is yes,” Maccagnan told ESPN Radio on Wednesday afternoon.

“If that was a player we felt strong about, we would have no qualms of potentially trying to go up and get him.”

Such a move would be costly, but could be deemed worth it as the Jets have lacked a franchise quarterback since it appeared Mark Sanchez was one. For the Bears to move up just from No. 3 to No. 2 last year to draft Mitch Trubisky, it cost two third-round picks and a fourth-rounder.

The Jets could bring back veteran Josh McCown to start next season, but Bryce Petty looked overmatched at the end of the season and Christian Hackenberg has not seen the field in two seasons since the Jets took him in the second round.

The Browns (Nos. 1 and 4), Giants, Colts and Broncos all pick before the Jets, and all could justify taking a quarterback. Aside from Rosen and Darnold, Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield and Wyoming’s Josh Allen are expected to be selected early.
