Jets report card: Todd Bowles isn’t fixing his failure

Grades from the Jets’ 23-0 loss to the Broncos on Sunday:

Offense

The last time the Jets offense was this anemic Joe Namath was at quarterback. The 100 total yards are the second fewest in franchise history, and the fewest since Namath’s final game in 1976. They did nothing well. QB Josh McCown (6-of-12, 46 yards, 1 INT, 1 fumble) had his worst day of the year and then broke his left hand in the third quarter. The offensive line had no answer for the Broncos’ front seven. WRs Robby Anderson (3 catches, 27 yards) and Jermaine Kearse (1 catch, 4 yards) were shut down.

Grade: F

Defense

The only reason this is not an F is the Jets held the Broncos to field goals several times and the run defense was strong. Other than that, the defense played with no energy and got picked apart by Trevor Siemian (19-of-31, 200 yards, 1 TD). CB Morris Claiborne had his worst day as a Jet, getting abused by Demaryius Thomas (8 catches, 93 yards, 1 TD).

Grade: D

Special teams

It was a nondescript day for the special teams unit. They did not give up any big plays, but they did not have any big ones either. Punter Lachlan Edwards had eight punts for an average of 45.6 yards and did a good job catching backup long snapper Eric Tomlinson’s snaps, which were not always on line.

Grade: C

Coaching

The Jets looked uninspired and flat on the road … again. Jets coach Todd Bowles has not been able to find a way to get his team to respond on the road. They are now 1-5 this season away from MetLife Stadium. Offensive coordinator John Morton had no answers for the Broncos defense and could not figure out a way to jump-start his offense.
