CBS has an Eli Manning offer if Giants don’t want him

Well, Eli Manning and Tony Romo competing again would be fun.

In the wake of the Giants benching their longtime franchise quarterback as speculation swirls about his future, CBS wants Manning to know he can stay in football without getting hit every play.

“We’d take him in a second,” CBS chairman Les Moonves told TMZ.

The network bigwig was out in Los Angeles with broadcasting legend Al Michaels, who said, “Eli will have a future a lot of places, wherever he wants. He’s a great guy.”

Manning has made 210 consecutive starts for the Giants, dating back to 2004, a streak that will end Sunday as Geno Smith gets the nod against the Raiders. Manning has base salaries of $10.5 million in 2018 and $11.5 million in 2019, and would be due a $5 million bonus if he’s on the roster March 17. Manning has struggled for the 2-9 Giants, and the end may be near.

If the Giants move on, the 36-year-old likely would have a job awaiting him somewhere (perhaps in Jacksonville with old friend Tom Coughlin). But he could take the route of Romo, who hung up his cleats for the booth and is now on CBS’ No. 1 NFL team, along with Jim Nantz.
