Kristine Leahy: CNN latest to build the LaVar Ball ‘monster’

No one is more appalled by CNN’s decision to give LaVar Ball airtime than Fox Sports’ Kristine Leahy.

During Monday’s episode of “Speak for Yourself,” it was suggested that the Big Baller Brand patriarch would reach a new audience with his televised sit-down on the Cable News Network. Leahy, the recipient of Ball’s infamous “stay in your lane” remark in May, blasted the notion.

“Shame on CNN for putting the guy on,” Leahy said, via Sporting News. “Honestly. Shame on everybody who keeps putting LaVar Ball on the air. Because we have created this whole monster. Has he not done enough things that are just repulsive that we need to continue talking about him and giving him a platform?”

Ball appeared on CNN for 20 minutes Monday evening, when he questioned President Trump’s involvement in securing the release of son LiAngelo Ball from China, where the UCLA freshman and two teammates were arrested for shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton boutique. The elder Ball has yet to thank the Commander in Chief, resulting in a tweetstorm from the latter.

“That’s on your mind, that a father didn’t say, ‘Thank you’? And you’re the head of the U.S.? Come on,” Ball said on CNN. “There’s a lot of other things that’s going on. Let him do his political affairs and let me handle my son, and let’s just stay in our lane.”

Leahy believes as long as the media keeps feeding the Balls, the hunger for fame will never cease.

“What he’s continuing to say is it’s all about me, it’s [a] means to an end, we will do whatever we need to do, put out whatever bad message we need to put out, as long as we get the publicity, as long as my kids get to the Lakers, as long as LiAngelo’s in the news,” she said.

Ball came under fire this spring for dismissively shaking his hand in Leahy’s face during a terse appearance on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”

“She can report to whoever she wants behind her,” Ball said on the show, before taking aim at Leahy. “My problem with you is that you are a hater.”

Leahy believes Ball’s words will eventually come back to haunt him.

“Just be a decent person and take accountability for yourself,” Leahy said. “It doesn’t matter. [The Balls] will wreck anything in their path as long as it benefits them. Eventually it’s going to bite them in the butt.”
