Controversial golfer returns to Twitter, immediately starts war

Grayson Murray continues to make a name for himself off the course.

Despite winning his first PGA Tour event at the Barbasol Championship in July, the 24-year-old’s rookie campaign was marred by what he did away from the links, specifically on Twitter, where he asked a Playboy model to caddie for him at the Masters and sent a creepy, inappropriate tweet to a fan in high school. Sprinkle in a Twitter war against some European Tour pros, Murray finally realized that his life in cyberspace was trumping his professional accomplishments, and he took a four-month hiatus from Twitter.

Earlier this month, Murray made his return to Twitter, and it didn’t take long for him to return to idiocy.

In a series of tweets that have since been deleted, Murray criticized the Champions tour, the senior golf circuit and specifically Bernhard Langer’s accomplishments in 2017.

“Does anyone really care is the real question….those guys were relevant 10 plus years ago,” Murray responded to Golf Channel’s Will Gray.

A Twitter user responded to Murray’s critique and asked if he thought “those guys” laid down a good foundation for younger players like him, to which Murray responded: “You will never see Phil, Tiger, Furyk ever play on it! The tour subsidizes it every year. Loses a lot of money.”

Golfers responded in many different ways to Murray’s hot take:

Murray eventually apologized for the “disrespectful” tweet, saying he has “nothing but respect” for the Champions Tour players who “paved my way to play this game.” He told The Post in May that he had to deactivate his Twitter after people were attacking him.
